As
I sit outside this morning feeling the crisp fall air, I am reminded to bask in
God’s goodness. Last week like so many other weeks was
hectic and I rarely stopped to just enjoy God’s blessings. Earlier on my jog
today I noticed the stunning sun rising and a majestic brown pelican flying
over the water. The air was brisk and refreshing on my run so I decided to
spend my devotional time with the Lord outside. I was in awe of so many
beautiful gifts God was showing me on my back porch. I don’t know about you,
but I seem to feel so much closer to God when I am in nature. Not only did I
see the most gorgeous monarch butterfly, but I also got to encounter one of
God’s most amazing creatures-the hummingbird. My visual and auditory senses
were on overload. I felt God was sending me little presents from heaven. I
could not help but smile and say thank you Lord for allowing me to witness such
pleasures.
I
truly believe God wants us to enjoy what He gives us, and take the time to
relish what beauty is around us.
O
Lord, How manifold are your works. In wisdom you have made them all. The earth
is full of your possessions. The great and wide sea, in which are innumerable
teeming things, living things both small and great. Psalm 104:24-25
Creation
is filled with stunning variety, revealing the rich creativity, goodness, and
wisdom of a loving God.
What
exactly does basking in God’s Goodness mean?
FreeDictionary.com
defines basking as: To take great pleasure or satisfaction. To derive or
receive pleasure from; get enjoyment from; take pleasure in.
The
Bible defines God’s goodness in two ways, first God’s character and then His
actions.
Jesus is the best example of God’s goodness, but He
also gives us beautiful and great things to enjoy. Eating a delicious meal can
be an example of God’s goodness, not only are we provided food to sustain and
nourish our physical bodies, but enjoyment in a tasty and satisfying meal. God
could just provide us with plain, tasteless food to eat, but He gives us spices
and so many other delectable food varieties. Think about a piping-hot, lasagna
with fresh herbs from the garden and bubbly mozzarella on top-is that not God’s
goodness?
There are so many things that can distract us, or
cause us to overlook God’s goodness. If we are rushing around and busy, we may
not take the time to bask in God’s wonderful pleasures. I encourage you to stop
and slow down this week long enough to savor God’s magnificent wonders. Being in-tuned with God’s goodness will
increase your peace, joy, and cause you to be more thankful. Everyday new
day gives us reasons for expressing our gratitude for the goodness of God.
What
ways do you see God’s goodness, and have you stopped lately to bask in His
goodness?
LOVE this, and am going to use this post and personalize it by writing all the things I see today that God has created for us to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMy heart and yours are receiving the same message from God about enjoying His creation!
I once heard of a Jewish proverb that says when we get to Heaven, God will call us to give account for every LEGITIMATE pleasure we did NOT enjoy!
Thank for another thought provoking and inspiring post!
