Breath of Life: Living God's Promise of Peace in the 7 Dimensions of Wellness by Karen Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A must-read devotional for those who need the peace of God in their lives in the midst of stress and turmoil.
Breath of Life is a 21-day daily devotional that explores seven different elements of well-being for emotional/mental, spiritual, physical, social, vocational and financial health. Each daily devotional has insightful tips and tools such as questions for reflection, scripture versus for meditation and song recommendations to inspire you. There are even journal pages at the end of the book that you can jot down notes as your reading and reflecting.
What I love about this book is that the author, Karen Ferguson writes authentically her own experiences in the journey to wholeness and health such as with depression, anxiety, worry and burn-out. People-approval and needing the acceptance of others are topics covered in one of the daily devotionals, and how these can drain us of peace Tender subjects such as rejection, abuse and not feeling worthy of love are woven in the threads of this devotional as some of our greatest peace-stealers of our well-being. As the reader, the author makes you feel that you are not alone in the struggles you go through with balancing work, home, children and the likes. The author believes in a holistic approach to well-being, and thoroughly covers in each daily devotional how to live a healthier and peaceful life in balance.
As a Christian counselor and an avid reader, I would highly recommend this book to your small group at church, a book club, or for those who have struggled in finding peace in the midst of chaos and the unrelenting demands in life. I would also recommend this book to anyone in ministry or secular work who has experienced burn-out and need to know how to recharge and refresh.
