Creating
momentum in your life means increasing the things that move you forward and
decreasing those things that hold you back. Perhaps you have cycles of
destructive behaviors or bad habits you want to overcome but have found that
living a life that you desire is not always an easy path. However, by creating momentum
in your life you can learn to move past those unwanted bad habits and cycles
and move towards the life you want.
By
building momentum in your life, you can become more productive, more effective,
and more efficient.
Practical
Steps to Gaining Momentum in Your Life:
1. See
yourself succeeding and visualize what you want to see happen in your life come
to pass. Write down your vision and post it somewhere that you can see every
day. If you see yourself stuck or as a failure, you very likely will not have a
high chance for success in your life.
2. Decrease
energy drains from your life. An energy drain is anything that takes the zest
and pep from you. Instead do things that will recharge you like taking a walk,
listening to good music or hanging out with a friend who lifts you up instead
of dragging you down.
3. Set
goals, daily, weekly and monthly goals. When you know where your going, you’ll
get there quicker.
4. Motivate
yourself. Listen to podcasts, watch YouTube videos or read books on people who
inspire you to dream big and who are achieving their goals.
5. Develop
good habits such as going to bed earlier so that you can get up earlier and
jumpstart your day.
6. Do
your most important task first thing in the morning. Tackle your biggest
projects, goals or work first thing. You will have more energy and motivation
to accomplish your more enjoyable tasks throughout the day.
7. Create
a morning routine such as making your bed, praying, and exercising. Small daily
routines can build momentum by having your brain register those tasks completed
and successful, which can build confidence for the rest of your day. Smaller accomplishments
lead to bigger accomplishments. Making your bed is one of the easiest ways to
create momentum early.
8. Take
a shower and get dressed, whether you work from home or from your office. This
simple act gets your day started and says, “I’m ready to work.”
9. If
you have an “off-day,” don’t let that defeat you, but get back-up and try again
the next day. You will from time to time have days where it feels like your
just not as productive, or life events happens that decrease your momentum. Don’t
beat yourself up for those days but move forward.
10. Take
breaks and especially a lunch break to recharge so that you can keep going. Many
people feel sluggish after lunch, so opt for a healthier lunch to feel more
energized. It’s important to note that when you take breaks don’t engage with
people or activities that will zap your strength.
Gaining momentum will take work, but it is worth it
once you push through the resistance and ingrained habits. Building momentum means
increased productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.
